duck parade on the beach, watercolor and acryla gouache, 2014

I created this painting from a photograph that I took of a flock of canadian geese and ducks parading on the beach at Clackamette Park in Oregon City when I was participating in the Willamette Falls Festival Plein Aire Artists event in October 2013. I was captivated by the beautiful ducks who let me get very close to take the original photograph. I decided to paint the scene in a more contemporary manner, with the rock shapes more abstract and the ducks more realistic. I kept the colors bright and vivid, using layers of transparent watercolor for the most part, augmented with acryla gouache for depth of color and opacity as required. The painting is 12 in. x 12 in. and is painted on professional quality 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, unframed.
